Copyright Policy & Takedown Procedure

Last updated: 17 May 2026

1. Our Position on Copyright

Karamelion respects the intellectual property of authors, publishers, and institutions. We expect our users to do the same. The Platform allows users to upload documents (lecture notes, case briefs, study materials) for private, source-grounded study. Users are solely responsible for ensuring they have the right to upload any material.

If you believe content stored or served by Karamelion infringes a copyright you own or are authorised to enforce, we offer a structured takedown process described below. We comply with the Nigerian Copyright Act 2022 (notably Section 39 on intermediary liability) and, for content reachable to international users, with the equivalent safe-harbour procedures under the U.S. DMCA (17 U.S.C. § 512).

2. How to Submit a Takedown Notice

Send a written notice to abuse@karamelion.com including all of the following:

  • Your full legal name, postal address, telephone number, and email.
  • A clear identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (title, author, ISBN where applicable, or a copy of the original).
  • The exact URL(s), document ID(s), or notebook ID(s) on Karamelion where the allegedly infringing material can be found.
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

Incomplete notices may be rejected. Knowingly submitting false claims may expose you to liability for damages under Nigerian and applicable international law.

3. What Happens After You Submit

  • We acknowledge receipt within two (2) business days.
  • We review the notice and, where it appears valid on its face, remove or disable access to the identified material within seven (7) business days.
  • We notify the user who uploaded the material and provide them a copy of the notice (with personal contact details redacted where appropriate).
  • We retain a hash of the removed file to prevent re-upload of the same content, even if the original record is deleted.
  • Repeat infringers will have their accounts suspended and, where warranted, terminated.

4. Counter-Notice

If you are a user whose material has been removed and you believe the removal was the result of mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notice to abuse@karamelion.com containing:

  • Your name, address, telephone number, and email.
  • Identification of the material that was removed.
  • A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  • Your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (or the courts of your residence for users outside Nigeria) for the purpose of resolving the dispute.
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

If we receive a valid counter-notice, we may restore the material after ten (10) business days unless the original complainant notifies us that they have filed legal action.

6. Repeat Infringer Policy

We maintain a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who are repeat infringers. A repeat infringer is any user against whom we have received and acted on two or more valid takedown notices within a rolling twelve-month period.
